Celine Ranger's work conjures up certain classicism, it is no way academic. And though her practice nourishes references from 18th and 19th centuries great masters, she succeeds in sublimely merging the lessons from the latter with techniques or some contemporary spontaneous gesture drawing.
As always, the artist establishes herself as an experienced though not conventional portraitist, and endeavours to reveal human beings' inwardness rather than their outwards beauty based identity. The faces and bodies she represents are like the endlessly unrolling parchment of their different aspects and conundrum.
